Weather in Cancun

One of the reasons Cancun is such a popular tourist destination is its weather, which is excellent throughout the year. The climate in Cancun is warm and tropical and the humidity is high, but being a coastal city, Cancun receives cool sea breezes pretty much through the day, making conditions very pleasant. The average maximum temperature in Cancun ranges from around 26 ºC during the cooler months (November to February) to 32 ºC during the hotter months (April to September) and there are no extreme variations. January and February are the coolest (average temperature 23 ºC), while in June and July, which are the hottest months, temperatures can soar up to the mid 30s. The nights are generally cooler in Cancun but mercury levels rarely fall below the 18 ºC mark.

The city experiences two distinct seasons - the wet season from May to October and the dry season from November to April. The wet season accounts for much of Cancun's average yearly rainfall of about 1400 mm. Showers are usually heavy but brief and frequently fall towards the evening. September and October see the heaviest downpours and it is also the time when tropical storms and hurricanes are likely to occur. The best time to visit Cancun is during the dry season when it is cooler and less humid.
